International Child Abduction & Abduction Prevention

Parental child abduction may take different forms. A parent may unilaterally remove their child from that child’s home country. Or, a parent may go overseas for a limited period of time for work or vacation, and decide to keep their child overseas at the end of that permitted stay. These cases can be highly technical, and very time-sensitive. If a parent files a lawsuit in the wrong court in the wrong country, they could lose valuable days or months with their child, or prejudice themselves, foregoing important legal arguments they could otherwise make. There are a variety of treaties, criminal statutes, and domestic laws that need to be considered. There are also significant practical issues, such as what resources are available through governments and outside organizations.
